Hey there! On Sunday, May 19th I’ll be walking/running to raise awareness and funds for an organization and a community that has a special place in my heart.
Friendship Circle Upper East Side works every day to cultivate friendships between kids, teens and young adults with special needs and dedicated teen and young adult volunteers, providing social and recreational opportunities that are otherwise unavailable to individuals with special needs. Hundreds of friendships have been formed and so many lives have been changed for the better because of this beautiful organization.
Over the last four years, I've been deeply involved with Friendship Circle, immersing myself in the enriching environment they provide for kids with special needs during our weekly Sunday Circle gatherings. It's been an incredibly rewarding journey, witnessing firsthand the remarkable growth and development of these extraordinary kids.
From initially reserved and distant, I've seen these children transform into vibrant individuals, radiating joy and enthusiasm. It's truly heartwarming to witness their journey of self-discovery and empowerment. What's even more remarkable is witnessing the breakthrough moments – from those who were once non-verbal, timid, or hesitant, now confidently expressing themselves, even if it's just to ask where the snacks are!
But beyond words, it's the bonds and connections formed within Friendship Circle that truly exemplify its impact. I've observed genuine friendships blossom, bridges built between individuals who might have never crossed paths otherwise. It's a testament to the inclusive and nurturing environment that Friendship Circle fosters, where every child is celebrated for who they are and encouraged to thrive.
If you would like to join my family and I on our walk, feel free to register on the website! The walk kicks off at 11:00am on 77th Street between 1st & York, followed by a Street Fair from 12:00 to 4:00pm which includes rides, games, and typical carnival food.
